The following position is available with the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education:

PROGRAM SPECIALIST
Trade and Industrial Education


Responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to programs and teachers in the Trade & Industrial Education division with emphasis on Cosmetology, Law Enforcement and Public Safety, Graphic Design, and Audio/Video Production.

Position officed on-site at CareerTech in Stillwater, OK. Requires moderate travel within the state for industry, school visits, and conferences, along with limited out-of-state travel required. Hiring is contingent upon successful completion of background check.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree or approved degree plan
  • In lieu of a bachelor's degree, industry experience and industry certification with degree completion plan on file
  • Three years' experience teaching in one of the assigned areas and/or administrative experience in trade and industrial education or equivalent industry experience is required.

PREFERRED:

  • Master's degree

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership, customer service, and support for trade and industrial education local programs within the Cosmetology, Law Enforcement, Public Safety, Graphic Design, and Audio/Video Production.
  • Provide leadership and technical assistance to the schools, programs, and teachers within assigned program areas.
  • Establish and/or maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with key educational leaders, industry employers, statewide organizations, and state agencies to ensure CareerTech continues to lead in workforce development.
  • Participate with industry on economic development initiative and individual workforce training requirements to ensure programs adjust to meet industry staffing demands and projections.
  • Work with local, state, and national trade organizations and industries to develop potential employment opportunities for our schools and their program completers.
  • Research and disseminate innovative approaches and best practices for instructional delivery and program improvement to build and maintain program quality.
  • Coordinate and provide guidance and leadership for SkillsUSA and other statewide student learning experiences.
  • Administer occupational examinations, both hands-on and written components, to instructors within assigned occupational areas, as required for teacher certification.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $56,985.95 - $63,421.34 commensurate with education or experience.

Total salary and benefits package valued at $71,991.72 - $78,911.50.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents as necessary. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Write complex documents in a prescribed format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors. Ability to communicate complex ideas and beliefs to top management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply moderately complex mathematical equations as applicable.

REASONING SKILLS: Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS: Requires valid driver's license and teaching certificate in one of the specialty areas state-approved certifications, national certification, or licenses in a specialty area.

OTHER JOB-RELATED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and a willingness and ability to travel. Knowledge of school administration and school laws is helpful. Computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office or comparable software. Ability to use various software and hardware or equipment directly used in program specialty areas. A working knowledge of specialty areas. Be able to prioritize and multi-task a variety of projects with time-critical deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
